Kronborg Classical: Musica Ficta concert

Kronborg's world-famous Renaissance vocal ensemble and house orchestra, Musica Ficta, is back at the castle with their unique and magical music.

Concert 1: Harmonies of the Spheres

Frederik II was the father of Christian IV and was, among other things, very interested in the scientist Tycho Brahe and his research.

Musica Ficta has named the concert 'Harmonies of the Spheres', as the music is from a collection of works from the Danish court's private music collections and from the so-called 'Uranienborg part books', which were found at Uranienborg Castle on Hven.

These are works dedicated to Christian III and Frederik II, such as funeral motets and the wedding motet dedicated to Frederik II's daughter Anna, married to King James VI of Scotland.

At this time, music was predominantly written for voices, but we know that these scores were just as often played by wind instruments. The concert will therefore be a festive mix of singing and wind music.

It's music that makes the world go round.

Up close and personal with the preparations

In the week leading up to the concert, the talented vocal ensemble moves into the castle, where you can get up close to the preparations for the concert through open rehearsals and Bo Holten's lively introductions for both children and adults. This is your chance to ask questions about all things vocal music. What is a countertenor? How many voices do you sing with? Have Danish kings and queens listened to this music? Or something else entirely.
